Standard Bangla is the language of schoolbooks and national media. Chatgaiya is what many Chittagong families actually speak. Nasal vowels, different “how are you”, and kitchen vocabulary will not appear in a generic Bengali deck.
A Bangla-bridge card is useful only after you have the Chatgaiya line. Otherwise you will remember the Bangla and freeze at the door.
Learn Chittagonian Chatgaiya is built as a courtyard: family arrival, kitchen, phone, market, elder/peer/child address. It is a paid app with no free lesson tier. If your home language is Sylheti, switch to Sylheti vs Bengali and Learn Syloti — do not use a Chittagong course for a Sylhet family.
It is often called that. For learning, treat it as the language of the Chittagong courtyard: sounds, nasal vowels and vocabulary a Dhaka Bangla course will not drill.
You will learn standard Bangla. That is useful. It is not Nanu’s Chatgaiya.
Both are eastern varieties often flattened into “Bengali”. They are not the same course. Use the app that matches the district your family is from.
